That crash was insanely violent. I'm really worried about this.

Thank's for posting this, but I'm not going to recommend it.

Matteo Malucelli in the Ferrari was reported concious and alert. They're cutting Memo Gidley out of the prototype.

Edit: Holding off until more news.

Oh my gosh indeed. Any news? I'm not watching at the moment.

Darren Law (Memo's teammate) just said they're skipping the infield care facility and taking him straight to the hospital.

I just saw them wheel Memo Gidley on a stretcher into the ambulance.

That can't be good.

Please keep updating.. I have no way of keeping upt to date besides Oppo here in the EU. That looked BAD! Hope everybody comes out with no lasting damages.. Since no serious injuries looks to be very unlikely.. Shocked and flabbergasted are the only words to describe this..

I really hope he pulls a McNish and turns out to be ok.

Last I heard Matteo was taken to the infield facility and was under observation but apparently ok for the moment. He had the benefit of the energy dissipation from the rear engine in the Ferrari. No word on Memo's condition but he was taken directly to the hospital.

McNish got out under his own power. Unfortunately Memo did not, but keep sending positive wuju his way!

That is true. I'm just saying that his crash looked just as horrific as this one.

Thank you! This is one of those "it couldn't have gone any worse crashes.." Damn.

Risi's twitter said both drivers are now at the hospital and that Memo was concious. Matteo might have a back injury. Hoping for the best.

yup I agree completely. My heart sunk immediately.

At the very least, the ferrari was moving forwards already so when the prototype struck it, the forces the drivers went through were bad, but most likely not enough to cause fatal injuries. It looks like the cars took the brunt of it and the safety systems did their jobs.
Hate to be excessively grim so I won't post the clips and pictures but the crashes that took out drivers like Earnhardt or Simonsen were not that dramatic. They were bad angles and freak incidents that rendered some of the safety gear ineffective. A weird rule of thumb I've come to notice (for modern cars) is the more bodywork and bits of debris flying off and twisted and mangled the frame is, the better - it's force that the car absorbed and dissipated on something that isn't a human.

Good points, but that was still a holy shit scary moment for me. The lack of info that we can get on the drivers' conditions just makes it even more suspenseful.

Wow!! That was shocking. I hope everyone is ok.
